Constantine Sequel Update!
It has been just over two years since Constantine 2 was officially announced, with Keanu Reeves set to reprise his role as DC’s John Constantine. While updates have been scarce, returning director Francis Lawrence recently shared an exciting development with Collider. Speaking to the outlet during the 4K release of the original film, Lawrence confirmed that the sequel is still in active development.
“I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it,” he revealed. Akiva Goldsman is writing the screenplay and producing the project. As for what fans can expect, Lawrence explained, “We have a great idea. We’ve gone through a lot of the comics over the years and taken inspiration. There are probably elements we’re pulling from, but most of it is just coming from the three of us—our love for the character, the world, and the stories we’ve had in the back of our minds for 20 years.” This is an encouraging update, especially after the project faced setbacks following its 2023 announcement, including industry-wide strikes. In an earlier interview with GameSpot, Lawrence detailed some of those challenges, explaining, “We had to jump through a bunch of hurdles to regain control of the character because others had control of the Vertigo stuff. Now, we have control.”

Released in 2005, Constantine was loosely based on DC/Vertigo’s Hellblazer comics, featuring Reeves as the chain-smoking demon hunter. The film grossed $230 million worldwide against a $100 million budget. Despite the delays, Lawrence, Goldsman, and Reeves remain fully committed to Constantine 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
