First Look at Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Confirms Matt Damon's Role as Filming Begins on the 2026 Epic

A first-look image from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has officially confirmed Matt Damon’s role as filming kicks off for the highly anticipated 2026 epic. Nolan’s next film adapts Homer’s legendary Ancient Greek poem, chronicling Odysseus’ perilous journey home to Ithaca after the decade-long Trojan War. The star-studded cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and more.
As production begins, the official Odyssey movie account on X (formerly Twitter) has unveiled the first glimpse of Damon as Odysseus. This image not only confirms Damon’s casting in the lead role—following speculation that Tom Holland might portray the Greek hero—but also marks his third collaboration with Nolan, after Oppenheimer and Interstellar. However, this will be Damon’s first time headlining one of the director’s films.

The image also verifies that filming started as planned in February 2025. While the exact location of the shot remains undisclosed, The Odyssey is set to film in the UK, Morocco, and the Aeolian Islands in Sicily—particularly Favignana, believed to be one of Odysseus’ legendary stops. With a staggering $250 million budget, Nolan’s most expensive project to date will be shot using groundbreaking IMAX film technology across multiple international locations.
