Alien: Romulus Sequel Will Discover Things You’ve Never Seen from ‘Alien’ Before
The box office triumph of *Alien: Romulus* last year has breathed new life into the franchise, and director Fede Álvarez is already deep in development on a sequel.
In a recent conversation with *Empire Online*, Álvarez shared an update on *Alien: Romulus 2*. “Rodo [Sayagues] and I are actively working on it right now,” he revealed.
“We’re thrilled about the possibilities ahead. With *Romulus*, we’ve checked off nearly everything I wanted to see, reviving elements that hadn’t been explored in a while. From here, we have the opportunity to venture into completely uncharted territory,” Álvarez added.
According to 20th Century Studios head Steve Asbell, a sequel to *Alien: Romulus* would likely center on the characters played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, who survived the intense events of last year’s film. Spaeny’s Rain Carradine serves as *Romulus*’s Ripley-like heroine, while Jonsson’s Andy is her android brother.
In his conversation with *Empire Online*, Álvarez hints at what’s to come: “I think it’ll be incredibly exciting to follow these characters from this film into a part of the *Alien* universe we’ve never explored before, uncovering things that audiences have never seen.”
However, Álvarez is mindful of the challenges of making a follow-up. “Sequels often happen just because they can, and with *Romulus*’s success, we certainly have the opportunity,” he explains. “But I wouldn’t move forward unless we had a truly compelling idea—something that’s worthy of the *Alien* name.”

In other words, a sequel to *Romulus* from Fede Álvarez isn’t set in stone just yet, but he’s actively working to make it a reality. Stay tuned for more updates on the *Alien* franchise as they emerge.
Meanwhile, Disney is bringing the series to the small screen with *Alien: Earth* later this year. The latest update suggests that the first-ever *Alien* television series will debut on FX and Hulu in Summer 2025.
